ONTARIO DEER HUNT PACKAGES

Semi-Guided Ontario Whitetail Deer Hunts

Experience an unforgettable semi-guided Ontario whitetail deer hunt with Wild North Outfitters. Located in within Wildlife Management Units (WMU) 55A and 57, our deer hunts offer hunters the opportunity to pursue whitetails during both the Ontario archery deer season and Ontario rifle deer season.

Unlike our bear hunts, which are more structured and require a higher level of guide involvement, our Ontario deer hunts are designed around a relaxed and enjoyable hunting experience. This is a chance to slow things down, enjoy the outdoors, and experience a traditional Ontario deer camp atmosphere. Before you arrive, we prepare your hunting location, establish active bait sites, and have everything ready so you can start hunting as soon as you settle in.

During your hunt, you'll be responsible for maintaining your bait site and getting yourself to and from your hunting location each day. If you prefer, transportation services to and from your hunting site are available for an additional fee. This semi-guided approach gives you the freedom to enjoy your hunt while still having the support and knowledge of an experienced Ontario outfitter. Our hunting areas are accessed by well-maintained logging roads that are in excellent condition and easily navigated with SUVs and trucks. If you have an ATV or UTV, you are more than welcome to bring it along. We also have an extensive trail system throughout the property that you are welcome to explore and enjoy during your stay.

One of the biggest advantages of our semi-guided whitetail deer hunts in Ontario is the flexibility they provide. You can hunt from daylight until dark, spend only the morning in the woods, return to camp for a home-cooked lunch and an afternoon nap, then head back out for the evening sit. There are

no rigid schedules—just a relaxing week of hunting, great food, good company, and time spent

 enjoying the Ontario wilderness.

What truly sets Wild North Outfitters apart is the overall deer camp experience. Many of our hunting groups have been returning year after year for more than a decade, building friendships and traditions that go far beyond the hunt itself. Our guests enjoy comfortable accommodations, home-cooked meals, and evenings around camp sharing stories from the day's adventures.

Because so many of our hunters return each season, only a limited number of openings are available for new guests. If you're looking for a personalized Ontario whitetail deer hunting experience where you’ll be welcomed like family from the moment you arrive, Wild North Outfitters offers a hunt built around great memories, lasting friendships, and an authentic Ontario hunting camp experience.

The best deer camps aren't measured only by the size of the buck—they're measured by the stories shared, the friendships made, and the memories that bring hunters back year after year.

2026 Non-Resident Licence Fees

  • Non-Resident Deer Licence: $272.11

  • Export Permit: $35.00

  • Ontario Outdoors Card: $9.68

  • Firearm Declaration/Transfer Documentation (if applicable): $25.00

Purchasing Your Ontario Hunting Licence

All required licences can be purchased over the counter before your hunt at an authorized Ontario licence issuer or online through the External link opens in new tab or windowOntario Fish and Wildlife Licensing Service.

If this is your first time hunting in Ontario, you'll need to provide proof of your hunter accreditation before purchasing a hunting licence. It can be done upon your arrival but we recommend completing this process well in advance of your hunt to avoid any delays when you arrive online through External link opens in new tab or windowFile Your Accreditation Services. Scroll down to the "Hunter Accreditation for Non-Residents" section and follow the steps outlined there. Once you've completed the process, you'll be able to purchase your Ontario hunting licence.

Bringing Firearms or Archery Equipment Into Canada

If you're hunting with a compound bow, recurve bow, longbow, or crossbow, there is no fee to bring your hunting equipment across the Canadian border.

For hunters bringing firearms into Canada, you'll be required to complete the appropriate External link opens in new tab or windowCanadian Non-Resident Firearm Declaration before entering the country.

We also recommend stopping at U.S. Customs before crossing into Canada to declare your firearm and obtain proof that you are taking it out of the United States. This simple step can make your return trip through U.S. Customs much smoother.

If you have any questions about licences, firearm declarations, or crossing the border, we're always happy to help guide you through the process before your hunt.

Minimum Age Requirement for Non-Resident Hunters

To hunt in Ontario, non-resident hunters must be at least 16 years of age and possess the appropriate hunting licences and documentation required by the Province of Ontario.

Before you travel, we recommend confirming that your travel documents are valid and will not expire before your trip. Having the proper identification ready will help make your border crossing as smooth and stress-free as possible.

If you're unsure about the current border entry requirements, we're always happy to answer your questions before your hunt.

Ontario Deer Hunting Rules & Regulations

At Wild North Outfitters, we are committed to providing safe, ethical, and enjoyable semi-guided Ontario deer hunts. To ensure the best possible experience for every hunter while complying with Ontario hunting regulations, all guests are expected to follow the guidelines below.

Hunting Rules

By booking a hunt with Wild North Outfitters, you agree to the following:

  • Hunters are required by Ontario law to wear hunter orange (hat and vest) while hunting.

  • All firearms must be unloaded and properly cased while traveling before dawn and after dusk, in accordance with Ontario hunting regulations.

  • Hunters are expected to practice ethical hunting and only take shots they are confident they can make.

  • Please remain in your tree stand or blind until your guide arrives unless instructed otherwise.

  • Follow your guide's instructions at all times to ensure a safe, ethical, and successful hunt.

  • Respect fellow hunters, wildlife, and the natural environment throughout your stay.

Wounded Deer Policy

Ethical hunting is one of the core values at Wild North Outfitters. Every reasonable effort will be made to recover harvested game quickly, responsibly, and humanely.

Please understand that a wounded deer is considered your deer, whether it is recovered or not. Our experienced guides will do everything reasonably possible to track and recover a wounded animal. However, because of dense forests, rugged terrain, weather conditions, and the natural behavior of wounded deer, a successful recovery cannot always be guaranteed.

For this reason, we strongly encourage every hunter to wait for a high-percentage shot opportunity. Patience and proper shot placement provide the greatest chance of a quick, ethical harvest and a successful recovery.

Our goal is to ensure every hunt is conducted with respect for the animal, the resource, and the traditions of ethical hunting.

Best Calibers for Ontario Whitetail Deer Hunting

One of the most common questions we receive is, "What is the best caliber for whitetail deer hunting?"

The answer is simple: bring a firearm that you shoot accurately and have complete confidence using.

At Wild North Outfitters, we recommend bringing a reliable deer hunting rifle chambered in a proven whitetail caliber. Popular choices include:

  • .243 Winchester

  • .25-06 Remington

  • .270 Winchester

  • 7mm-08 Remington

  • .308 Winchester

  • .30-30 Winchester

  • .30-06 Springfield

  • .300 Winchester Magnum

  • .350 Legend

  • Other comparable big-game hunting calibers

All of these cartridges have proven to be highly effective for Ontario whitetail deer hunting when paired with quality ammunition and proper shot placement.

Shot Placement Is More Important Than Caliber

At Wild North Outfitters, our philosophy is simple:

It's not the caliber that harvests whitetail deer—it's proper shot placement.

Whether you're hunting with a rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, compound bow, traditional bow, or crossbow, success comes from knowing your equipment and placing an accurate shot when the opportunity presents itself.

We encourage every hunter to bring the firearm or archery equipment they practice with regularly and feel completely comfortable using in the field. A well-placed shot from a familiar firearm or bow is far more effective than using a larger caliber that you aren't confident shooting.

Before heading into the woods, every hunter is welcome to use our on-site shooting range to confirm their rifle is properly sighted in and to become familiar with their equipment before the hunt begins. Taking a few practice shots helps build confidence and provides peace of mind, knowing your firearm is ready when that buck steps into range.

By arriving with equipment you've practiced with and trust—and by taking advantage of our shooting range—you'll give yourself the best opportunity for a clean, ethical harvest and a successful Ontario whitetail deer hunt.

Our goal is to give every hunter the confidence to make a safe, ethical, and accurate shot when the opportunity finally presents itself.

Please note that handgun hunting is not permitted in Ontario, and handguns cannot be used while hunting during your trip.

A Typical Day During Your Semi-Guided Ontario Deer Hunt

A Typical Day During Your Semi-Guided Ontario Whitetail Deer Hunt

Wondering what a typical day looks like during your semi-guided Ontario whitetail deer hunt? While every hunt is unique, this gives you a good idea of what to expect during your stay at Wild North Outfitters on our American Plan, where all meals are served in the camp dining hall.

When you arrive at camp, we will show you your hunting location and explain the setup so you are familiar with your area before heading into the woods. Your stand, bait site, and hunting location will all be ready for you when your hunt begins.

MORNING

5:00 a.m. – Breakfast

Start your day with a hearty, home-cooked breakfast while sharing stories from the previous day's hunt and making plans for the day ahead. Before leaving camp, you'll also be provided with a packed lunch to enjoy while you're in the field.

6:00 a.m. – Head to the Woods

After breakfast, you'll make your way to your hunting location.

You'll spend your day hunting from a tree stand or ground blind overlooking one of our active bait sites, watching for whitetail deer and enjoying everything the Ontario wilderness has to offer. Throughout your hunt, it's not uncommon to see moose, grouse, wolves, foxes, and a variety of other wildlife.

One of the great things about our semi-guided deer hunts is the flexibility. You can choose to stay in your stand all day, or return to camp for a break, lunch, or a quick nap before heading back out for the evening hunt.

EVENING

Approximately 5:30 p.m. – Return to Camp

After legal shooting hours have ended, you will return to camp to enjoy a well-earned meal, share stories from the day, and spend time with the other hunters around camp.

AFTER THE SHOT

If you harvest your deer during the day, simply give us a call.

Your guide will come to your hunting location, recover your deer, transport it back to camp, begin processing it, and place it in our walk-in cooler while the remaining hunters continue their hunt.

If your deer is harvested near the end of legal shooting hours, we will recover it as soon as possible. Once your deer has been safely retrieved, we will return to pick up the remaining hunters after legal hunting hours have ended.

This system ensures your deer is taken care of promptly while allowing every hunter the opportunity to stay in the woods for the full hunting day.

BLOOD TRAIL & RECOVERY

If a deer is hit but the blood trail is limited or shot placement is uncertain, we may decide to wait until first light before beginning the recovery process.

Although waiting can be difficult, it is often the safest and most effective approach. Recovering a wounded deer in daylight allows our guides to follow the trail carefully while reducing the chance of pushing the animal farther into thick cover.

Our priority is always to recover every deer as ethically as possible while keeping the safety of our hunters and guides at the forefront of every decision.

THE ADVENTURE DOESN'T END AFTER YOU HARVEST YOUR DEER

Once you've harvested your deer, your hunting adventure isn't over.

You're welcome to join us as we help recover other hunters' deer, replenish bait sites, or simply spend more time exploring the Ontario wilderness and learning how our hunts operate behind the scenes.

Many of our returning guests say these experiences become some of their favorite memories. Watching another hunter harvest their first deer, helping with a recovery, and celebrating together around camp are all part of what makes the Wild North Outfitters experience so special.

At Wild North Outfitters, you're not just booking a semi-guided Ontario deer hunt—you’re becoming part of the camp, building lifelong friendships, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Ontario Whitetail Deer Hunting Setups

During your semi-guided Ontario whitetail deer hunt, you'll hunt from carefully placed tree stands or comfortable pop-up ground blinds overlooking active bait sites. If you have a preferred tree stand, you're welcome to bring your own and use it during your hunt.

Preparation for our Ontario deer hunts begins months before opening day. In the spring, we establish mineral sites throughout our hunting areas to provide deer with essential nutrients during the antler-growing and fawning seasons while also helping us monitor herd health and whitetail activity.

As fall approaches, we begin preparing our bait sites using primarily corn and apples. Baiting starts on October 1, giving deer plenty of time to establish consistent feeding patterns before the opening of both the Ontario archery deer season and Ontario rifle deer season. Every hunting location is fully prepared before you arrive, allowing you to settle into camp and start hunting right away.

Hunting Setups

Archery Hunts

  • Average shot distance: 20–25 yards

  • Close-range setups designed for ethical shot opportunities over active bait sites.

Gun Hunts

  • Average shot distance: 40–60+ yards

  • Carefully selected stand locations offering excellent visibility and safe shooting lanes while maintaining natural deer movement.

Whether you're joining us for an archery or rifle hunt, our goal is to provide every hunter with a comfortable, well-prepared hunting location and the best possible opportunity for a successful Ontario whitetail deer hunt.
